Health Wellness Tourism in India

By: Nimba - September 13, 2021

An expanding segment of the tourism industry is wellness tourism. Today, the century-old wisdom of this ancient civilization has been harnessed to fully utilize wellness systems. This is being done by positioning India as a centre of Ayurveda, Yoga, holistic lifestyle, Naturopathy, etc. As well as incorporating the spiritual philosophy of India.

Wellness tourism includes several major practices and activities that help in promoting the overall wellness and health of the body.  Let’s discuss a few in this article.

Naturopathy:

Naturopathy is a method of healthy living that does not rely on drugs, it has its own conception of health and disease as well as its own treatment principles. In Naturopathy, it is not the disease but the entire body of the patient which is identified as the cause and later renewed. It cures chronically ill patients in a much shorter time frame than other forms of medicine.

Naturopathy treats the body as a whole. According to Naturopathy, “Food is the Medicine”, and so there are no external medications used.

Some important Naturopathy treatments are mud pack, Vibro massage, colon hydrotherapy, manipulative therapy and enema. In the hands of a naturopathic doctor, the patient is treated holistically, which means that their biochemistry, biomechanics and emotional dispositions are considered.

Ayurveda :

More than 3,000 years ago, Ayurveda, a natural system of medicine, was born in India. The term Ayurveda is derived from the Sanskrit words ayur (life) and Veda (science or knowledge). Thus, Ayurveda translates to knowledge of life. The Ayurvedic theory holds that most diseases stem from imbalance or stress in the body, mind, spirit, and environment. It recommends lifestyle interventions and natural treatments to restore balance.

Ayurveda Treatment begins with a cleansing process, followed by a special diet, herbal remedies, massage therapy, yoga, and meditation. There are many treatments put forth by ayurveda, such as bahyangam, udvartana, shirodhara, pancha karma, and potli.

Yoga and meditation :

Yoga (Sanskrit for “to unite” and root of the word “yoke”) aims to help the practitioner unite his or her individual consciousness with the divine. In order to gain awareness of one’s own self, one must engage in spiritual, mental and physical exercises and disciplines.  Despite their varied levels of difficulty, every asana provides maximum benefit to specific muscles or organs, ensuring improved suppleness and overall health.

Following a session of yoga, meditation is often practiced to open up the energy of the body. Meditation is regarded as the most powerful tool for understanding the true nature of the mind and the self, an essential step on the path to enlightenment.  Through meditation, we realize our true selves, the roots of life and consciousness.  Nimba Nature Cure Village’s unique yoga therapy practices help in bringing about an integrated rejuvenation of the body, mind, intellect, and spirit.

Holistic living

A holistic lifestyle is one that nourishes the mind, body, and soul. And although that sounds a little hippy-dippy, it’s actually quite wonderful.  Holistic healing involves changing one’s lifestyle to cope with sickness and to develop healthy social relationships to live well. Reducing stress and dealing with mental health problems can be key to curing the disease. As a result, our minds and spirit are able to stay optimistic through the proper use of efficient and effective coping strategies. Furthermore, holistic healing helps strengthen and boost our emotional, mental, and physical defenses.

A holistic lifestyle is a way of living life that lets you look at the big picture – the whole person.
